Breathwork: The Foundation of Practice

Pranayama - breath control - is essential to yoga. Proper breathing calms the nervous system and energizes the body.

Why Breath Matters

Breath connects body and mind. Conscious breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress. It also increases oxygen, improving every bodily function.

Basic Breath Techniques

Ujjayi breath involves constricting the throat slightly, creating an ocean sound. This calms while energizing. Nadi Shodhana alternates nostrils, balancing energy channels.

Breathing During Practice

Movement should follow breath. Inhale to expand or lift. Exhale to contract or fold. This synchronization creates flow and mindfulness.

Building a Habit

Start with 5 minutes daily of conscious breathing. No poses needed. Just sit and breathe. Gradually extend duration as the habit establishes.

The Power of Pause

Between poses, return to breath. This prevents rushing and creates presence. The real practice happens in these pauses.
