About This Pose

One of the most recognized yoga poses, Downward Dog is an inversion that stretches the entire body while building strength. It energizes and calms simultaneously.

How to Practice

  • Start on hands and knees
  • Spread fingers wide, press firmly through palms
  • Tuck toes and lift hips high
  • Straighten legs as much as comfortable
  • Press heels toward the floor
  • Keep head between arms, gaze at navel
  • Hold for 5-10 breaths

Benefits

This pose stretches hamstrings and calves, strengthens arms and legs, and calms the mind. It also helps relieve stress and mild depression.

Modifications

Bend knees if hamstrings are tight. Use blocks under hands for wrist relief.
