About This Pose

Warrior I is a powerful standing pose that builds strength and stamina. It develops concentration, balance, and grounding energy.

How to Practice

  • From Mountain Pose, step left foot back 3-4 feet
  • Turn left foot out 45 degrees
  • Bend right knee over right ankle
  • Square hips toward front of mat
  • Reach arms overhead, palms facing each other
  • Gaze forward or slightly up
  • Hold for 5 breaths, repeat other side

Benefits

This pose strengthens legs, opens hips and chest, improves focus and balance. It builds confidence and determination.

Contraindications

High blood pressure, heart problems, or shoulder injuries may require arm modifications.
