About This Pose

Cobra Pose strengthens the spine and opens the chest. It energizes the body while calming the mind.

How to Practice

  • Lie face down, legs extended
  • Place hands under shoulders
  • Press tops of feet into mat
  • Inhale and lift chest off floor
  • Keep elbows slightly bent
  • Press pelvis into floor
  • Gaze forward or slightly up
  • Hold for 15-30 seconds

Benefits

This pose strengthens spine, stretches chest and abdomen, opens heart and lungs. It helps relieve stress and fatigue.

Contraindications

Back injury, carpal tunnel, headache, or pregnancy require modifications or avoidance.
